Packing up house while still living in it?

We are not going to move until November but I will be doing all the packing myself so I would like to get started. The problem is that I don't know where to start! I think I will pack up all my knickknack things that don't actually get used but after that I don't know. Fall is almost here so I think I need to leave some warm clothes unpacked just in case. And since we are going to be living here for so much longer I'm hesitant to pack up the kitchen at all. Anyone an expert packer/mover and can give me some advice. I mostly don't want to have to be unpacking boxes looking for something I need in a few weeks. Any advice welcome! Thank you!
